Case study: Income maximisation – Citizens Advice Liverpool City Region

The 6 local Citizens Advice charities in Liverpool City Region provide free, confidential advice on a range of issues including benefits, debt, housing, energy, employment, immigration, and crisis help such as food vouchers. They empower residents to maximise income and find solutions to the problems they are facing.

Advice is offered through multiple channels: face to face, telephone and via digital channels. Citizens Advice is based in the community, with outreaches in a range of trusted partner locations including Family Hubs, GPs, hospitals, mental health services and community centres.

Each local Citizens Advice is different, but all work collaboratively on a range of projects and issues facing residents in Liverpool City Region.

Citizens Advice also work in partnership with the local Citizens Advice in Cheshire.

Impact in 2024/25 –

In the Liverpool City Region, 63,890 clients were collectively advised. Thousands of other Liverpool City Region residents were also provided with information to help them find a way forward with the issues they are facing.

This included advice on –

34,280 Universal credit issues
47,019 debt issues
23,529 housing issues
15,965 charitable support including food and fuel vouchers
