Case study: Cheshire and Merseyside’s collaborative model to reduce health inequalities and improve population health

The Local Government Association (LGA) has featured the Champs Public Health Collaborative model to reduce health inequalities and improve population health as a case study.

It comes as good news adding to the recognition of the model by the King’s Fund as an innovative national exemplar,  highlighting its unique leadership, the impact of its work, and learnings for local authorities.

Child and family poverty in the UK is at a critical level. Today, 4.5 million children live in relative poverty, with 3.1 million in deep poverty. Highlighted in the case study is our published report on child and family poverty within our subregion from September 2024, which provided vital insight into the far-reaching consequences of poverty.

A key focus is placed on our framework for action integrated in sub regional health and wellbeing strategies, implemented across our All Together Fairer programme, with our team actively advancing key priorities to drive maximum impact.

The UK Government is developing a nationwide strategy to tackle child poverty, to be published in Autumn 2025. Through the case study, our model is offered as a compelling example of how place-based, systems-led collaboration can inform a national Child Poverty Strategy that aligns local innovation with long-term structural reform.
